Through my advisor, Dr. Nan Ratner, I received your
contact information from Dr. Judith Kuster, who recently traveled to
China.
I am trying to invite people who stutter and speak both Mandarin
Chinese and English to participate in the study, which requires a speech
sample collected at home, no traveling required.
Would you be interested to participate? I would be glad to send you
further information about the study and answer any question you may
have. Also, if you have any contacts to people that may qualify for the
study, they are welcome to contact me, or with their permission, I would
be more than happy to contact them.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Peitzu Tsai
Graduate Student
Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences
University of Maryland, College Park
ptsai@hesp.umd.edu

Dear Mr. Wang,
Thanks for willing to participate, and please feel free to post my
message on the websites. I've already done so on www.stutter.cn, but
it's buried up several pages back on the board.

The study is done by recording two types of speech samples in both
Mandarin Chinese and English (so there will four small samples): one in
conversation, one in story telling. You will also fill out a brief
questionnaire about you language skills and stuttering.

The basic process is:
I will mail a packet to you, including a consent form in both English
and Mandarin for you to read and sign, questionnaire, instruction page,
picture book for story telling and audio/video tapes for recording. With
your signature and permission to collect data, you simply follow the
instruction page and record language samples. Once you're done, mail the
packet back, or if equipment allowed, you can email me the digital file
of the recordings, and mail the consent form and questionnaire back to
me.

If the process seems fine to you and you would like to participate,
please let me know. Since recording equipment is required (we will
provide the tape), also let me know if you have equipment for audio
recording or video recording, digital or traditional.

A little about myself, I am from Taiwan, a Ms., and I speak perfect
Chinese.
Thanks for you help!

Regards,
Peitzu
